Fostering in Sheffield
If you’re looking for a new challenge – one that enables you to make a difference to other people’s lives, then becoming a foster carer in Sheffield could be for you.
There are children and young people in Sheffield that require urgent care and supportive homes, and for lots of different reasons. It could be due to an illness, that may mean a parent or guardian is required to stay in hospital for a short time. Conflicts at home could mean that children need to go into care until that conflict is resolved. Unfortunately, the main reason why children enter foster care is because of abuse or neglect – sometimes even both. TACT are recruiting foster carers in Sheffield to provide care and guidance for these vulnerable young people.
You may think that you would need some previous childcare experience to become a foster carer. Whilst some experience of looking after children would be helpful, it’s not a requirement as full training will be provided. The initial criteria for becoming a foster carer is to have at least one spare bedroom, and lots of energy to provide a child with a secure and supportive home. Personal qualities such as resilience, patience and a caring nature would be essential. If this sounds like something YOU could do, you could join our Fostering Sheffield team!
TACT North East foster carer Chris discusses below the support and guidance she has received from TACT, and how she felt ‘ready’ for her first fostering placement.
Why foster in Sheffield with TACT?
TACT is the UK’s largest dedicated fostering charity – enabling us to provide care for children on a national level. We reinvest any surplus income into providing more support and training for foster carers interested in fostering.
As one of the leading fostering agencies in Sheffield, we provide our foster parents with training and support that is local to them – to enable them to change young people’s lives. Because we reinvest surplus income, we can provide additional support over and above what is required of a fostering charity, such as a dedicated education service, health service and an online foster carer portal.
We’re more than just a fostering agency – we go above and beyond to look after our foster carers and the children they provide care for. Our TACT Connect service ensures that when children leave the care system, they have TACT’s support for life.
This is why 98% of our carers would recommend us to others thinking of fostering.
“After doing some research into other fostering agencies and charities, I came across TACT. The views of the CEO which were very child-centred reflected my own, while the fact that TACT is a charity was very important to me. I would not have transferred to a profit-based organisation, so I liked the fact that any money which TACT made was reinvested into their young people and foster families.”
