Recent Riots: Statement From Andy Elvin

Author: TACT Fostering

It’s almost impossible not to have seen or heard about the horrific violence and riots that have taken place across the UK recently.

As an anti-racist organisation, we stand as allies and in solidarity with refugees, asylum seekers and BAME communities who are being targeted by the extreme right-wing thugs and criminals.

Here at TACT, we’ve been caring for children and young people from all communities in the UK over the past 30 years and are proud to have cared for many unaccompanied asylum-seeking children. The selflessness, humility, empathy and compassion shown by our foster families to all of the children who have come into their care exemplifies the best of the UK and stands in stark contrast to those who bring only hate and violence.

We’re absolutely clear that racism, violence and hate crime has no place in our society and at TACT, we embrace children, colleagues and carers of all backgrounds, faiths and beliefs. Our values of compassion, care, inclusivity and being child and person centred, underpin all that we do. We believe the heartening scenes of communities coming together to reclaim the streets for decency and inclusion represent who the UK really are, and we are proud to stand with them. We also salute the stance of the government and the tireless work of the emergency services in standing firm against the violence and intimidation.
