With over 25 years experience in foster care, we are the UK’s largest dedicated fostering charity. When you choose to foster with TACT, you will receive a generous fostering allowance, 24/7 support and access to a comprehensive training programme.
Sadly, there are over 10,000 children in the West Midlands who cannot be looked after by their own family. We are urgently recruiting more foster carers in the West Midlands who can provide care and support to some of the UK’s most vulnerable children and young people. You could join our Fostering West Midlands team of foster carers!
We are recruiting foster carers all across the West Midlands, particularly in Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall, Wolverhampton, Shropshire and Telford.
The first step is to check that you fulfil the basic general fostering requirements:
If you have answered ‘yes’ to all three questions, you have fulfilled the initial criteria. We would now like to talk to you further about why you would like to become a foster carer, and ask you some more questions. Please complete our ‘start your fostering journey’ form on this page.
Foster carers come to us for many reasons and they stay with us – because we help them do the most rewarding job in the world. Together we transform the lives of children and young people, giving them the chance to lead happy, loving, fulfilled lives.
At TACT we are more than just a fostering agency; as a charity we put our foster carers and the children they care for at the heart of everything that we do.
Choosing to become a foster carer is one of the most rewarding decisions you will ever make, and we will be by your side every step of the way making sure that you feel valued, encouraged and supported – that is why 98% of our foster carers would recommend fostering with TACT.
“Children make good progress from their starting points. This is because of the excellent care that they receive from their foster carers and the agency support network around them.” – Ofsted
For each young person that comes to live with one of our foster carers, we arrange an attachment clinic to help identify any specific support that the child may need. A support and training package for both the foster carer and young person is then be developed, and is suited to everyone’s individual needs.
Each month, TACT West Midlands also operates a ‘TACTIC clinic’ – which provides the fostering household and other professionals the chance to reflect upon a young person’s journey so far, along with their current needs. This enables the foster carer to offer the child attuned care which supports the development of healthy secure relationships, and provides the opportunity for recovery from early year’s adversity.
Our TACTIC Clinics promote long term stability and well-being for our young people.
“My husband and I felt that we had done a good job as parents to our three children who are now all adults. We love children and we had plenty of space, so when my husband retired from the fire service we believed that the time was right to look into becoming foster carers. We chose to foster with TACT because it’s a charity and we didn’t want to feel like just a number…”
“We began fostering aged just 22.”
“I was first introduced to fostering at the age of 11 as my sister was in a mother and baby placement. My understanding of fostering back then was that it was similar to adoption, that people offered stable homes and support to young people, but just not on a permanent basis…”
– Michelle Patterson
